Senior Data Scientist specializes in the development of novel digital endpoints in late stage clinical trials using data science, statistical learning, and innovative machine learning methods on multi-modal datasets including clinical data, real world evidence, imaging, wearables, and other biomedical data sources. The Digital Health Oncology R&D Human-centered AI and Machine Learning Team strives to transform the patient experience and clinical trial process. We will do so by deploying digital solutions to clinical trials and in the real world to decrease patient burden. The approach the team takes will incorporate clinical trial data, real world evidence data, clinical free text, medical imaging, patient reported outcomes, and device data to define new digital approaches to addressing the pressing problems across the AZ R&D portfolio. The Human-centered AI team in Digital Health Oncology R&D is looking for an Associate Director of Data Science to specialize in the development of novel digital endpoints using data science, statistical learning, and innovative machine learning methods on multi-modal datasets including clinical data, real world evidence, imaging, wearables, and other biomedical data sources to address patient burden. This role will sit within the Digital Therapeutics, Diagnostics and Endpoints team with a heavy emphasis on interacting with the Therapeutic Areas, clinical trial teams and other collaborators in the product development cycle. This Data Scientist will also work closely with the Digital Health R&D subject matter experts and customers to develop novel approaches that support the development of patient and HCP-facing digital products. Applicants should have a solid base in statistics and machine learning, detailed knowledge of the clinical trials space in the pharmaceutical industry and experience maintaining a portfolio of machine-learning enabled projects. Collaborates in a multidisciplinary environment with world leading clinicians, data scientists and statisticians, biological experts, clinical trial delivery teams, and IT professionals. Essential M.Sc. degree in rigorous quantitative science (such as mathematics, computer science, physics, engineering) or have demonstrated an outstanding track-record of proven experience (2+ years) with the desired data science methodologies with a B.Sc. in a relevant field. Demonstrated experience with and a sound understanding of a variety of statistical and machine learning methods and standard statistical/ML development practices and strive to continue to learn and develop these skills. Practical software development skills in standard data science tools: Python, Agile, code versioning, UNIX skills, familiarity working in cloud environment and high-performance computing clusters. Knowledge of range of mathematical and statistical modelling techniques and aim to continue to learn and develop these skills. Communication, business analysis, and consultancy; ability to present compelling cases to collaborators and operate dynamically to identify solutions. Ability to work effectively within a team. Desirable Advance degree in rigorous quantitative science (such as mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering) Sophisticated statistical and machine learning models such as hierarchical mixed bayesian models, transformer-based NLP models, reinforcement learning, deep learning models that span CNN/RNN/LSTM, GNNs, constrained optimization, innovative time-series & forecasting models.
