Microsoft Windows & Devices Group is driving the development of new hardware solutions within Xbox, Surface and HoloLens programs that are bringing new and exciting experiences to our customers. The Device Analysis Engineering (DAE) team provides detailed analysis as well as recommendation to our development, manufacturing, quality, and Reliability partners that drive both changes in our designs as well as our processes to ensure Microsoft hardware products meet or exceed our quality targets. DAE’s mission is to leverage applied science and critical thinking to influence change through material characterization and in-depth failure analysis for complex, time-sensitive issues. #DSQO Responsibilities Perform failure and material analysis by utilizing cutting edge instrumentation/techniques and critical thinking to identify failure mechanism and root cause for complex issues and drive meaningful actions and improvement. Qualifications 10+ years’ experience of physical failure analysis Hands-on experience with critical failure analysis techniques is required, such as 2D/3D Xray Mechanical cross sectioning/Dye & Pry SEM/EDX FTIR Microscopy Proven track record of solving complex problems and making impact consumer electronic products Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to clear communicate the FA findings and ensure that are partners understand the issues and the changes required by writing FA reports for the key issues studied Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet product development milestones and maintain product launch schedules S in Material Science/Chemistry/Physics or related engineering discipline required, M.S/PhD a plus Experienced with typical electronic consumer manufacturing process such as PCBA/SMT/assembly preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required. Candidate must also either be a US citizen or possess a valid green card. Less than 10% out of the area travel is expected but local travel (less than 20 miles) will be required (~50%).
