Job Details

This position will provide general program support for Tacoma Community College's Corrections Education program at the Mission Creek Corrections Center for Women in Belfair, WA. This includes clerical and front office support duties, supervision in the Student Learning Center, as well as administration of assessments in support of TCC programming. This position reports to the Director of Corrections Education.


Essential Functions

Clerical
  • Provide information about TCC programs offered to students and DOC staff.
  • Track and assist with the processing of all TCC and Second Chance Pell enrollment and registration.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to manage inventory such as instructional books, teaching materials, electronics, office supplies, and graduation gowns.
  • Answer phones and communicate with TCC and DOC staff.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by staff and faculty:
    • Photocopy materials
    • Process forms, scores, etc. for incoming students and classes
    • File forms and students records
    • Type/word process
    • Assist with registration
    • Process incoming/outgoing mail
Student Learning Center
  • Enforce policies and rules governing students attending the learning center.
  • Take attendance and maintain student activity log.
  • Work with staff to maintain sign up rosters and monitor call outs.
  • Distribute instructional or library materials.
  • Maintain inventories of materials, equipment, or products.
  • Supervise student activities and study groups.
  • Assist students with available technology and equipment.
  • Reinforce rigor in learning, individual responsibility and good study skills
  • Model academic excellence and encourage a positive learning environment.
    Assessment
  • Assist with monitoring of e-CASAS set up and administration.
  • Assist with the administration and scoring of standardized assessment tests including E-CASAS (appraisal, pre, and post-tests), GED, and Accuplacer.
  • Provide WABERS database support in collaboration with testing administration.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of clerical experience in an office setting.
  • -or- equivalent education and experience.
  • Intermediate word processing, database and spreadsheet skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • One year experience working with Adult Basic Skills Students
  • Knowledge of and experience administering standardized assessment tools such as the GED predictive tests, Accuplacer, and E-CASAS assessment tools.
  • Experience working with and providing services to under-represented populations.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successfully completion of a criminal history background check prior to employment.
  • Attend and successfully complete the Department of Corrections training (CORE).
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Terms of Employment
This is part time classified position scheduled to work 30 hours per week Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet department needs. Renewal of the the position is dependent on Department of Corrections funding. The salary range is prorated to reflect 75% of the monthly salary which is $1,811 to $2,336 per month DOE/DOQ. Tacoma Community College offers a generous benefits package to include: life, health, dental and long-term disability insurance, state retirement, vacation leave, sick leave and holiday pay. A collective bargaining agreement exists and membership in the Washington Federation of State Employees or payment of a service fee is required within 30 calendar days of employment. The layoff unit for this position is "Project Employment".

The workplace for this position is located within the Washington Correction Center for Women in Purdy, WA or the Mission Creek Corrections Center for Women in Belfair, WA. These are normally a safe environment; however, the potential for compromise of personal safety does exist.
